Accentra has the ability to authorize negative balance debit card transactions and assess overdraft fees if you ask us to do so by completing and returning the Courtesy Pay opt-in form. Courtesy Pay allows Accentra Credit Union to automatically authorize a transaction(s) and assess a fee(s) to your account if a transaction is attempted and sufficient funds are not available to cover the requested amount(s).
Courtesy Pay works as follows: If you are making a purchase of $100 and you only have $75 available in your primary checking account (and nothing available in any of your transfer sources) Accentra Credit Union will authorize the transaction(s), saving you the frustration of your debit card being denied at a merchant. You will be assessed an overdraft fee of $33.00 each time you utilize this service. Under the current structure this type of transaction would be denied. To take advantage of this new service you must “opt in” by completing and returning the form.
This service is completely voluntary and is only used if it is needed. However, Accentra is not obligated to pay any item initiated for payment against your account if your account does not contain sufficient funds. Courtesy Pay authorizations are made on a discretionary basis. If you maintain your account in good standing, have demonstrated responsible account management, and your account has been open for at least 180 days, we may approve your transactions, within your current available Courtesy Pay limit, rather than automatically denying the transaction.
